President Emil Constantinescu participated in the high level meeting of the Levant Initiative for Global Peace held at the UN Headquarters in New York on July 23rd – 24th 2013.
As President of the Academy for Cultural Diplomacy in Berlin, Emil Constantinescu gave the opening ceremony speech entitled “The Levant Initiative for Global Peace”. At the “The Parliamentary Dimension of Cultural Diplomacy” session, Crin Antonescu, President of Romania’s Senate and of Valeriu Zgonea, President of the Deputy’s Chamber presented his own contribution.
The event, organized by the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy in Berlin and the Inter Parliamentary Coalition for Global Ethics, is a continuation of the “Levant, Cradle of Cultural Diplomacy. Rediscovering the Mediterranean” Conference held in Bucharest on the 23-25th of May 2013, in which many political personalities from Romania and all over the world participated.
The following representatives of Christian, Judaic and Islamic organisaitons, as well as academic personalities, parliamentarians and representatives of the civil society were present: Dr. Yizthzak Dayan, Chief Rabbi of Geneva and the representative of the European Rabbi Conference at the UN; Dr. Abdusallam Mraihh, the Mission-Peace Coordinator; Sheikh Ramzi, the Director of the ICRA Institute at Oxford University; the Chairman of Great’s Britain Musulman Conseil; Bishop Enoch Adeboye from SUA, leader of RCCG, the biggest Pentecostal movement in the world; Rabbi Benyamin Abrahamson, Director of the Historic Research in the Islam and Judaism Committee at Yale University; Omer Salem, Founder of the Ibn Rushd Institute; Congressman Peter King; Ariel Atias, member of the Israeli Knesset; Rabbi Dr. Elie Abadie, Yale University, Member of the Forum for Israel and Global Ethics; Dr. Jeana Adebayo, International Coordinator of the Christ the Redeemer’s Friends Trust Organization and Prof. Dr. Karl Donfried, Emeritus Professor of Religion and Biblical Literature at Smith College.
The leader of the Romanian Mission to the UN, Ambassador Simona Minculescu as well as other ambassadors from European states and university took part in the conference. During the summit’s debates, the role of Romania in promoting the Levant Initiative for Global Peace was constantly emphasized.
